Review: Girl Descending by Jenny O'Brien

Title: Girl Descending
Author: Jenny O'Brien
Format: Ebook
Publisher: Perry Nighy
Publish Date: December 13, 2015

What's the Story?:

From Goodreads.com: "She thought she'd left hurt behind.
She'd lost her gran, her fiancé and nearly her life. Could moving from Cork to Dublin herald a new beginning or would it be just more of the same?

Dr Ruari is Proud; not My Darcy proud but there was no way he was going to ask someone out unless she was at least half decent - unlike new nurse Grainne McGuire.
Grainne is prejudiced; not against Ruari, more against all men in general - So would you be if you found your fiancé in bed with your best friend!

Can they work it out or will Pride and Prejudice come between them?

Book Two in an Irish trilogy of stand alone medical romances all set in the fictious St Justin's. This one will take you from Crumlin and Cork, finally ending up in delightful World's End (Kinsale)."

My Two Cents:

"Girl Descending" is the second book in the Irish Hospital Romance series by Jenny O'Brien. It works well as a standalone book. This book is the story of Grainne, a nurse who has seen more than her fair share of tragedy. When she starts working at the same hospital as Dr. Ruari, she isn't looking for romance, she's just looking for a new start. Still mourning her grandmother, Gran, the woman that raised her, she can't imagine falling in love with anyone. Life doesn't feel the same. This is a sweet romance with a good message about being okay with what life has in store for us.

Ruari and Grainne don't "meet cute." It takes awhile for them to figure out their attraction but they do eventually and it's very sweet. I liked both of the characters. I found Grainne to be a little more intriguing with her background. I would have liked to get to know Ruari a little more like we get to know Grainne through all of the things that she has faced. The romance in the book is good and fit the bill for a light read with a good deal of "aww" moments.

There were some parts of the story that I thought could have been tightened up a little bit but overall, the book moves at a nice pace. Overall, this is a good pick for anyone looking for a romance with good ending!

  1. Girl Descending sounds like a cute romance and, has a few undertones of Pride & Prejudice as well which is always a plus for me. Thanks for your review.
